Recent events in Connecticut have prompted an attempt to raise awareness about how dangerous the situation is in our schools.

Teachers love all of their students and care deeply for their safety. Teachers hate how vulnerable students are everyday. Anyone can drive or walk right up to the window of a classroom anytime they please and many, many campuses are the same. There is no such thing as a secure campus in our district or in most schools in our country.

How many children could have been saved if there was someone, anyone, at Sandy Hook Elementary to oppose that lunatic? If that poor Principal, or a Teacher, had been equipped to defend those children instead of hiding in a corner, maybe the shooter would be the only one dead.

Current campus evacuation/lockdown procedures are mediocre at best. If someone entered a classroom intent on causing harm to the teacher and/or students, there would be nothing anyone could do to stop it. Such was the case in Connecticut

Please support many KISD teachers in asking our school board to implement policies that would allow our properly trained and licensed campus Teachers and Administrators to carry concealed handguns. We all know the district cannot afford to place a full time Police Officer at each and every campus. Allowing Teachers and Administrators with a CHL to carry on campus wouldn't cost a nickle.

There are teachers currently employed by the district that would gladly pay out of pocket for any additional training the district required to be able to protect our students.

Please help give us a deterrent so we can prevent these awful events from happening in Killeen.
